2011 Transitions Championship -- Vision and the Game

by Kenny Perry  |  March 20, 2011

Not exactly the week I was hoping for at the Transitions Championship.  I'm really struggling with my ball striking, but I'm working really hard with Matt Killen to get my swing back to its 2008/2009 form.  I've also been working with Dr. Lampert, Transitions' vision expert, on new Transitions lenses for my glasses.

We've discovered that my vision in my left eye is deteriorating quickly, but my right eye vision is remaining constant, which is why the deterioration in my left eye was not obvious to me.  Throughout the last 6-9 months I've hit a lot of putts that started on the line I wanted but didn't come close to the hole.  Now I know I wasn't reading the line accurately, so I'm confident my putting will immediately begin to improve.  Vision is everything in golf but can easily be overlooked.  For me, it's important to have quarterly eye exams so I can stay on top of my changing lens prescription.  Now it's just up to me to get the ball in the hole!

A New Vision at the Chevron World Challenge

by Kenny Perry  |  December 04, 2009

We are into the second day of competition at the Chevron World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.  The course is beautiful, and I’m beginning to get comfortable with my new V-groove irons.  I’ve only had them for a few days, but thought I might as well go ahead put them in play.

This is also my first tournament with my new eyewear – which has been a great experience for me.  As most of you know, I’ve struggled with vision-related complications throughout my career, and I’m grateful that my partners, Transitions Optical and adidas Eyewear, have come together to find the right solution for me.  I’ll now be competing in adidas Eyewear fitted with prescription Transitions lenses.

No matter if I’m reading the greens or following the ball through the air, Transitions allow me to see clearly and more comfortably than I ever have before.  This new eyewear really has made a difference for me and will continue to be essential to my game.

Continue to follow the action from the Chevron at www.pgatour.com this week.  Please feel free to share your comments, and I’ll be back in touch again shortly.

Congratulations to 2011 Transitions Championship winner, Gary Woodland!

The first round of play was delayed due to fog, but the players made up for lost time in an exciting day of golf.

The 2011 Transitions Championship hosted its inaugural Ladies Day on Thursday of tournament week. A select group of women attended the event, where they enjoyed a social breakfast followed by a training demonstration session by author and trainer Pete Cerqua. They then participated in a golf clinic with former LPGA player Jan Stephenson, and watch the first round of Championship play.
